You know, I've bumped into all sorts of marketers in my time online. Some are just getting their feet wet, testing the waters of the digital world.
Others have been coaching for a while, serving up their expertise to others in their field. And then, there are the ones who are absolutely crushing it.
Those superstars, they've all got a secret sauce.
Spoiler alert: it's not an ultra-luxurious gadget or a top-secret hack. Instead, it's something simple yet profound. They know how to strategize using systems.
When I talk about a system, I mean a kind of formula that helps you hit your goals consistently.
It's a routine, a series of steps that save you time, money, and prevent you from pulling your hair out.
These systems aren't random; they're crafted with purpose, and boy, do they make life easier. Living without them would be like having to invent the wheel every single day.
Let me use content marketing as a case in point. It's the bread and butter of building a name for yourself and your business online.
But here's the kicker: when I'd ask fellow marketers about their content strategy (a.k.a. their system for putting out content), I'd often be met with blank stares.
They'd say things like,
"I've decided to make more reels" or
"I try to post something new every day" or even
"It's crucial to know your audience."
While all these points are relevant, they were missing the point of my question.
Imagine our conversation going something like this:
Me: "So, why are you posting every day?"
Marketer: "I'm trying to get more followers."
Me: "Can you be a bit more specific? How many followers do you want to gain each month?"
Marketer: "Hmmm, I guess about a 50-100 more each month would be nice."
Me: "Okay, and how are you planning to achieve this? What's your system?"
Marketer: "System? Uh... I don't really have one."
Bingo! Without a system, they're just shooting in the dark, hoping for the best. A goal without a plan, as they say, is just a wish!
Here's what I believe a robust system should cover: a clear goal, priorities, a way to track your success, next steps, and consistency. So, what's my secret recipe?
I set a goal to write one blog post every week, then slice and dice this blog into multiple social media posts which I scatter across four different platforms, all set a month in advance.
What's my goal, you ask? Simple, it's to grow my email list. And here's the real magic: because of my system, my email list grows EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.
Now, that's what I call a solid content strategy!
