Why the Path to SUCCESS is so LONELY

Why the Path to SUCCESS is so LONELY

While we had the tv on today, the song "Stairway to Heaven" came on, which inspired me to write this post...

I remember my husband gave me the nickname "hermit" when I first started my online business 😂,

Besides taking care of the kids, I worked on my business day in and day out like a hermit.

Hard work, long hours, and anxious moments are just a few of the entrepreneurial journey's characteristics to most successful outcomes, and we all know it.

Starting your own business is an undertaking that requires more than vision, inspiration, sweat equity, money, and determination.

It is a leap of faith that demands that you let go of everything safe, comfortable, and proven.

It is getting outside the box in the most significant way possible.

For those of you who don't know me, before I became a business coach, I taught music for almost 20 years.

A little back story about this song, "Stairway to Heaven," in case you don't know, this is a super famous song by Led Zeppelin, is the number one Rock and Roll Band of All Time.

Can you guess how many people came to me over the years wanting me to teach them this song?

The answer is too many that I can't even keep track of.

Watching someone plays "Stairway to Heaven" on tv reminded me of this boy. We call him Troy here. He was about 15 years old at the time.

Troy wanted to play this song at a school talent show. I told him this is not a beginner song, it's doable to learn with his current skill level, but it will take time.

He asked me how much time, and I told him about three months.

"Oh good, it'd be just time for the talent show," Troy said.

"To be honest, three months might still be pushing it. Whether you make it or not, it all depends on how much you're going to put into practice." I said.

"Challenge accepted!" Troy said excitedly.

We met once a week for the following three months to learn the song section by section. We'd repeatedly work on specific parts he needed more help with, which we all know isn't fun.

Working together once a week seemed like a year...

Was there a time he felt like giving up and wanted to change the song?

Of course!

He complained to me about how he didn't get to hang out with his friends as much, how he even lost weight over this for spending too much time practicing and not having enough time to eat right, so he suggested other song choices.

But seeing how far we had gotten with it and how close we were to the school talent show, it wouldn't make sense to start over with a new song.

Two weeks before his talent show, I remember telling him not to forget to practice the song 300 times before his performance, which I called the magic number that would save him from making any mistake.

One day, I was sitting on the couch with my baby daughter and got a text from his mom showing me a video clip of his school performance,

Not sure if he practiced 300 times, but the whole performance seemed flawless, and I was sure proud of him.

When I saw him in the lesson next, you guys should have seen his face, bragging about how proud he was of himself and how many female fans walked up to chat with him afterward.

Troy did it! What he had accomplished was no accident. He put blood, sweat, and tears into perfecting the song, making him the star of the night.

Now back to us, how much are you willing to sacrifice for success?

Do you think I wanted to be a hermit sitting in front of the laptop all day long making posts or doing whatever was needed for my business?

Do you think I wanted to turn down getting together with other mom friends?

Do you think I wanted to turn down catching up on popular drama series?

Of course not!

From time to time, you probably feel this path to success of yours is lonely, risky, dangerous, and harrowing, especially if you're starting.

However, with the proper preparation, the appropriate knowledge, and the counsel of a mentor, it can be a liberating and extremely rewarding experience.

Hang in there! You can do it!

I'm always here cheering you on.

I'd love to know what you're working on in your business. 😉
